The Vics held their annual BBQ yesterday at Victoria Park. Although the weather conditions did not allow the event to be held outdoors, a hastily arranged casino was set up in the changing rooms and committee room. The players and committee also had a fifa tournament along with a shot at some Karaoke. A big thank you to the committee members and helpers who persevered with the conditions and served up an excellent BBQ with very little going to waste.

Brechin Vics 0-4 Montrose Roselea
Brechin Vics played their last game of the season against local rivals and league favourites Montrose Roselea. In a scrappy game Montrose took all 3 points and deseved their victory. Although the scoreline is not a fair reflection of the game. Manager Chris Simpson commented 'although it was a disappointing way to end the season it was pleasing to see and be involved in a young side that battled for the entire 90mins. Unfortunately we did gift Montrose at least 3 of their goals and it is these little individual errors that ended any hope of taking anything from the game'.

Violet 3 - 1 Brechin Vics
The Vics turned in another under par performance against Violet at Glenesk park today. After going into the break 1-0 down from a free-kick. Violet increased their lead shorlty after the restart when sloppy defending allowed a Violet striker to tap in from what appeared to be an offside position. However,Chris Paton sparked the vics into life after poor goalkeeping allowed his 35 yard shot to bounce into the corner of the net. Another piece of poor defending then allowed Violet to score from a second set piece which eliminated any chance of a comeback. Manager Chris Simpson commented "This game was very similar to games we were loosing near the start of the season. We needed to go 2-0 down to start playing which is unacceptable and there was a lack of confidence from the players which showed when we were in possesion of the ball. Its dissapointing as i felt we had turned a corner and would not put in a performance like this again this season. However, i know the players will work hard this week in training as we have a tough game this saturday away to Harp.

Brechin Vics 1 - 2 Arbroath Vics
Arbroath won the battle of the Vics in a lacklustre game at Victoria Park. Brechin took the lead when Chris Simpson finished well from a Brian Nicoll cross. However the Vics deservedly equalised from a header. Both teams had chances to take the lead in the second half but Arbroath snatched a late winner after a shot from the edge of the box squirmed its way past Robbie in the Brechin goal. Manager Chris Simpson was dissapointed with his teams performance and commented 'too many of our players were having off days and we couldnt retain possesion and play our usual passing game. Im am looking for a good response this week at training as we have a tough game at Violet on saturday.

Couper Angus 1-2 Brechin Vics
Brechin left Foxhall park with all three points today in a hard fought encounter. The tight pitch restricted any free flowing football but both teams tried to get the ball down and play. The Vics took the lead mid way through the first half when Chris Paton rifled the ball home from 18 yards after good counter attacking play from Chris Eaton. Couper then equalised from the penalty spot after Ewan Cairney was adjudged to have used his hand to block a shot. The Vics took the lead with ten minutes to go when Scott Fenwick was brought down in the box and Chris Paton calmly dispatched the spot kick. Manager Chris Simpson commented 'its pleasing to come away with all three points as in the last few games teams have equalised in the last minutes. The team are playing with confidence and it showed today as we played some excellent football. All the hard work from the players, management team and committee is now paying off and hopefully our winning run can continue on saturday against Arbroath Vics.

Brechin Vics 2-2 Kirrie Thistle
On a sunny but windy day at Victoria park, Kirrie Thistle came from behind twice to snatch a draw with Brechin. Unfortunately for the Vics, Ludwik Metelski failed a fitness test and Scott Fenwick had to miss the game due to work commitments. The vIcs went in at half time 2-1 up thanks to goals from Chris Simpson and an own goal, but the turning point in the game was when captain Paul Ross was harshly adjudged to have kicked out at a Kirrie player and much to the suprise of both teams, was given a straight red. The Vics couldnt hold on and Kirrie equalised in the final 5 minutes of the game. Manager Chris Simpson commented ' obviously i am dissapointed as once again we have lost a late goal that denied us all three points but on the whole i think a draw was a fair result as both sides had chances. We just have to learn from our mistakes and move on to next weeks game against Couper Angus.'

Brechin Vics v Kirrie Thistle preview
Kirrie Thistle travel the short distance to Victoria park looking to avenge the Vics 1-0 victory in kirriemuir. With a narrow loss to ASC last saturday, Kirrie will be in a determined mood to pick up some much needed points and climb the table. Forfar Albion 1 - 3 Brechin Vics
Brechin Vics left with all three points after defeating a much improved Forfar Albion side. Neil Hattersley opened the scoring midway through the first half finishing off a fine passing move. David Skelly then scored a second half brace to put the game beyond Albion, who kept battling to the end and eventually scored after a goalmouth scramble.
Managers Comments;
" This was a professional performance from the vics in what was a tricky game as Forfar are always improving. Our work rate was the basis for a good team performance and it was pleasing to see some excellent football on show which we have been lacking in previous weeks. Hopefully this can continue into next weeks game against Kirrie Thistle"

Forfar Albion v Brechin Vics Preview
Forfar Albion welcome the Vics this saturday in what could be an entertaining game. Albion have certainly improved under the guidence of new manager Shaun Kelly and posted their first victory of the season recently against east craigie. The vics on the other hand have not been playing well in the last couple games and have conceded ten goals in two games. However manager Chris Simpson is upbeat about the forthcoming fixture and comments 'the lads have been working extremely hard at training this week and is just the responce i was looking for after a few poor results. Albion will feel they can take something from the game so our attitude and work rate will have to be spot on'.
The Vics will be without Steven Cairney through work commitments but Ludwick Metelski and Callum Valentine return to the squad.

On a frosty afternoon in Kirriemuir, Brechin Vics left with a deserved 3 points. After wasting a number of chances and dominating proceedings in the first half, it looked as though Brechin's inability to turn possesion into goals was going to come back and haunt them. However a second half goal from Neil Hattersly was enough to secure the points for the Vics in a temperamental game which saw 2 red and 6 yellow cards given out.

Downfields new manager Shug McLachlan was in the dugout for his first competitive game and couldnt believe his luck when a long hopefull ball into the box struck Vics defender Metelski's back and trickled past Robbie to give the Spiders the lead. The Vics then settled into the game and Simpson equalised to put the teams level at half time. Disaster struck for the Vics when Payne was allowed to run unchallenged to the edge of the box and the midfielder made no mistake unleashing a great strike into the top corner from 20 yards. The Vics strived for an equaliser but Downfield held on to take all 3 points back to Dundee.

Brechin Vics 2 - 2 ASC (Brechin Won 4-3 on penalties)
Brechin were back in action after 3 weeks off due to the severe weather conditions. However, the game was in serious doubt right up until kick off due to the heavy rain. The Vics competed very well in the first half and created the better of the chances and were unlucky not to be leading at the interval. The 2nd Half was played at an intence pace and and was a classic cup match with plenty of action at both ends of the pitch. The Vics came from behind twice during the 2nd half with both goals coming from Steven Cairney. The game finished 2-2 and penalties were needed to decide which team would progress. The scorers for the Vics were S.Cairney, D.Skelly, C.Valentine and C.Simpson netting the decisive penalty. An injury to Blair Mudie just after half time was the turning point in the game as Couper scored 3 times before the vics defense reorganised and adapted to the game. David Skelly scored a consolation goal for the vics. Assistant Manager Alan Millar commented 'the games that we are losing could have gone the other way if we were more composed infront of goal. Disaster struck for the Vics when slack marking allowed an Arbroath player to head home. It was one way traffic from this point but Brechin could not put the ball in the net. Aberdeen superleague outfit Dyce Athletic hosted the Vics in the second round of the scottish cup. Downfield 3-0 Brechin Vics
On a blustery and wet day at Downfield, the Vics poor run continued as they slipped to defeat against a well organised Downfield side. With both sides unable to score in the first half, it was likely the first team to score would go on to win the game. Vics certainly had the chances to do this, but a mixture of poor finishing and slippy conditions contributed to the defeat. Credit must go to both teams for trying to keep the ball down and play football in horrendous conditions.

Broughty Athletic 5 - 0 Brechin Vics
Brechin lost their second consecutive game in as many weeks. Brechin went into this game full of confidence and were hoping to bounce back after last weeks unlucky defeat. it was a disappointing first half performance by the vics which seen them going in at half time 4-0 down. Brechin battled hard in the second half and played some good football, but the damage was already done in the first half. Manager Chris Simpson said that "this was a very disappointing result and i hope the players will learn from this. We had a game plan which the players did not stick to in the first half and broughty exploited us. We applied ourselfs correctly in the second half and we were very postive in our play, but the damage was done already".

Montrose Roselea 2 - 0 Brechin Vics
Brechin lost their unbeaten run today in a hard fought encounter against local rivals Montrose Roselea. With both teams squandering chances in the first half, it was a matter of time before somebody broke the deadlock. Unfortunately for the Vics, 5 minutes into the Second half Roselea gained the advantage by scoring from the penalty spot. Montrose added a second shortly after by heading home from a quickly taken corner. More misery was to follow for the vics when Ian Gauld, Blair Mudie and Scott Fenwick all had to be taken off with injuries which may rule them out for next weeks trip to Whitton park. Manager Chris Simpson said that "the players should be pleased with their overall performance, as we worked extremely hard throughout the game and were the better team in the first half. Unfortunately our inability to keep the ball in the second half cost us."

East Craigie 2 Brechin Vics 4
The Vics kicked off their league campaign in style with a well deserved vicory at craigie park. Goals from Simpson (2) and Crighton put the vics 3-0 up at half time, with Wilson adding a fourth late in the second half. Two dubious penalties almost let Craigie back into the game in the second half but a professional display from the vics saw off the Dundee side.

D.J. Laing Cup (Group Section)
Forfar Albion 1 Brechin Vics 2
The vics came from behind to earn a well deserved victory in the final league cup game. After wasting numerous chances and dominating for long spells of the game, it was Albion who took the lead in a rare foray into the vics box. However, vics pressure finally paid off as Trialist David Skelly connected with Lee Hoods Cross for a well taken goal. Rory Crighton then reacted to a mix up in Albions defense to score the winner for Brechin. Assistant Manager Alan Millar said 'he was pleased with the performance and the number of chances we created thoughout the 90 minutes. We were also pleased with contribution of the trialist who was listed in todays game'

Brechin Vics 0 Roselea 5
The vics slipped to a dissapointing defeat to roselea at Victoria Park. Down 2-0 at half time, the vics still felt they were in the game but a controversial penalty and a deflected free kick put the game out of reach. Assistant Manager Alan Millar said that 'he was dissapointed how easily Roselea scored from set pieces and it is something we will have to work on. However, we did play some excellent football but lacked a creative edge in the final third of the pitch. This was mainly down to the fact we had no strikers in the squad, and were forced to play with a lone striker.'

Brechin Vics 1 ASC 3
In a rain soaked vicoria park, the vics lost their first game of the season to a battling Arbroath SC. The game was played at a fast pace with the final result flattering our opponents as their was nothing between the two sides. Manager Chris Simpson commented that "yes i am disappointed with the result but i have to look at the positives, which are the defence played really well and limited ASC chances. We also looked much fitter than our oppenents over the 90mins even when we had a player sent off." Hopefully the players won't let this result affect them for next weekend.

Brechin Vics unbeaten run came to end tonight with a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Dundee College. 2-0 up at half time and looking comfortable, the vics once again failed to hold the lead and lost three goals in a poor second half. Manager Chris Simpson wasnt to downbeat as he pointed out that 'we tried a new formation in the second half and also looked at certain players in different positions. This will help with our team selection for the first game of the season'.

The vics continued their unbeaten run in a well deserved 4-2 victory over Johnshaven. In a first half dominated by Brechin, Chris Simpson opened the scoring with a well taken strike from 18 yards. The lead increased when a Scott Fenwick shot deflected off Scott Wilsons back and looped over the keeper. Johnshaven pulled two goals back within the first twenty minutes of the second half as vics sat too deep defending their lead. However, a second goal from Simpson and a well taken chip from Steven Barclay sealed another victory for the vics.

Montrose U19s were todays guests at Victoria park which ended in a 1-1 draw. The game was played at a fast pace with an abundance of flowing football from both teams. Chris Eaton opened the scoring for the vics from a well worked corner, however the vics were denied their third straight victory as Montrose equalised in the last minute of the game. Both teams had a few clear cut chances, but good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the game at 1-1. Assistant manager Alan Millar commented that Chris Simpsons '50p' heed had alot to do with Brechins missed chances.

Brechin vics continued there unbeaten run with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bervie Caley. Craig Christie was the only scorer from the penalty spot after he was bundled down inside the box. The vics management team were happy with the effort and energy levels of the players and credit must go to Bervie for pushing the vics all the way.

With goals from Steven Barclay, Craig Christie and Chris Simpson, the Vics looked comfortable and played some excellent football. We are happy to announce that talented midfielders Lee Hood and Scott Fenwick have decided to put pen to paper and sign for the 'vics'. Lee Hood steps up from the Amateur ranks where he won many awards and established himself as one of the top players in the amateur league. Scott Fenwick came through the Dunfermline F.C. youth system and his pace and skill will be a huge asset to the Vics this season.

Manager Chris Simpson has completed his first signings for the 'vics' by bringing in Striker Craig Christie and defender Mark Bruce. Craig is a proven goalscorer but had the misfortune of breaking his leg last season. Hopefully he can recapture his scoring form for the vics this season. Mark is an experienced full back who took time out from the game last season to concentrate on family commitments i.e. a new baby. Best wishes to Mark and Craig on the forthcoming season.
