Brechin Vics Latest

Brechin Vics 0 Tayport 1

Vics were narrowly beaten in their first  pre season friendly. Tayport scored after 2 mins in what proved to be the only goal of the game. Vics showed enough to suggest a good season awaits and they were unlucky not to get an equaliser. Black had a header ruled out for offside and Eaton produced a good save by the Tayport keeper from a 20 yard free kick. Tayport themselves had a couple of chances but O'Neill dealt comfortably with the efforts. The important aspect was that the whole pool got some much needed game time.

Brechin Vics 2 Neilston JFC 3

Vics squad was decimated as a result of holidays and injuries but they were able to include new signing Scott Black in their line up along with 3 trialists against their west coast opponents. It was Neilson who took an early lead when Hopewell scored from close range. Vics had an opportunity to equalise but Dunn had his spot kick saved by the keeper. Dunn made amends 3 mins later heading a Lewis cross into the net from 6 yards. The game was fairly even but Vics were looking the more dangerous and went ahead when a Sturrock strike from the edge of the box went in off the crossbar. Neilston equalised on 43 mins when Cameron turned and shot past Robbie from 12 yards

The second half was again evenly contested with the only goal coming on 83 mins when Paul McKay scored with a strike from 10 yards after Vics  had failed to clear a corner. Vics came close to an equaliser just before the interval but Strachan's effort hit the post and was cleared to safety.

Although Vics created a few chances it took them until 75 mins to equalise when Ferguson slotted past the keeper when played in by King. It was Manager King who got the winner on 89 mins when he drifted past three Forfar defenders before placing the ball into the net from 18 yards past the diving keeper.

Vics ground staff cleared the lines in time for a further inspection at 11.00am. Their work was in vain however as the referee regrettable had no option but to postpone the game as the areas in the goalmouth were still frozen.

Vics took the lead on 2 mins when King was sent clear to round the keeper and slot into the empty net. Kennoway replied with a quick one two on 15 and 16 mins to go into a 2-1 lead. Vics levelled on 26 mins when Whitworth converted a King free kick at the back post. Vics took the lead on 35 mins courtesy of an own goal before Kennoway completed the scoring on 40 mins.

Vics response was immediate when on 60 mins Manager King latched onto a Strachan through ball to lob the keeper from 25 yards. Vics were in control of the half but were shocked on 43 mins when a break through the heart of the defence resulted in Goodwin notching the equaliser. Two goals from Devaney and Fyfe on 49 and 88 mins completed the scoring for Lochore in what was a disappointing second half performance for Vics

Newburgh 2 Brechin Vics 2

Vics took the lead midway through the first half when Strachan latched onto a long Robbie kick to knock the ball past the keeper and into the net from 18 yards. Glenrothes equalised on 60 mins in controversial circumstances. A pass in midfield was blocked by the referee and and the ball fell kindly to a Glenrothes player who slipped the ball through for the striker to run in on goal and score. Carnoustie showed why they were in the Super League and although Vics had chances they never really troubled the keeper. Vics must now pick themselves up when Kirre Thistle come to Victoria Park on Saturday in another League Cup section match. Kick of 2.30pm

Sunnybank JFC 1 Brechin Vics 1

Vics drew with their Aberdeen counterparts in what was a hard game. Sunnybank took the lead early in the second half but Vics responded midway through the half when Buggins headed a Myles cross into the net from 8 yards.

Report to follow

Montrose U 20's 1 Brechin Vics 1

Vics made a host of changes for this friendly and produced another good performance. David Easton was Vics scorer midway through the first half when he rounded the keeper after being played in by Buggins. Montrose equalised in the second half with a freekick from 20 yards. Vics had most of the chances but could not find a second goal although Montrose continued to be a threat.

Vics were resounding winners against their North Junior rivals.A first half goal from C Eaton was all Vics had for their domination. Match report to follow

Glentaner JFC 4 Brechin Vics 3

Vics travelled to Aberdeen for their first friendly and were involved in an entertaining encounter. Glentaner had the best of the first 15 mins but it was Vics who looked the more dangerous on attack. Vics took the lead on 22 mins when new signing Duff latched on to a short pass back before rounding the keeper and scoring form an acute angle. Vics were now on top and looked like they could score with every attack. Vics did increase their lead on 32 mins when Fyfe beat 2 players before smashing the ball into the net from 18 yards. Myles and Fyfe continued to torment the Glentaner defence but could not increase the scoreline.

Half time 0-2

Vics started where they finished the first with Duff testing the keeper from 18 yards. Vics extended their lead on 50 mins when an S Eaton shot from 22 yards took a deflection off a defender and ended up in the back of the net. Slack play from Vics allowed Glentaner to pull a goal back on 55 mins. Vics however continued to look the most dangerous of the two teams and efforts from Fyfe and Myles should have extended Vics lead. The last 20 mins of the half saw numerous substitutions and this seemed to distrupt Vics flow of play and allowed Glentaner back into the game. Three goals in this period from the home side gave them a victory although Vics will rue a host of missed chances.

Full time 4 - 3

Squad - Robbie, Gourlay, C Eaton, Gauld, Cairney, Ross, Duff, Buggins, Fyfe, Myles, Young, S Eaton, Fotheringham, Laing, Whitworth, Milne, Robertson

This was just what Vics needed in their first game. Some good football was played with 3 goals scored but at least another 4 great chances missed. It also highlighted weaknesses that will have to be worked on but the positives outweighed the negatives. Vics are at HOME on Saturday 28th July when Cruden Bay Juniors visit Victoria Park. Kick off is 2.00pm

New Management Team Appointed

Vics held their AGM on Thursday with no changes to the office bearers. The Committee have appointed Dave Longmuir and Brian Eaton with the running of team matters and they will be ably assisted on a Monday evening by former Brechin player Charlie King, who is now playing with Forfar Athletic. Charlie is delighted to get involved in coaching as this is something he aspires too once his playing days are over. Vics are also hoping to secure the services of a senior goal keeping coach in the near future.

Dave and Brian are keen to bring more professionalism within the playing side with the enthusiasm and experience of Charlie playing a major role. The management feel that these are exciting times at the Vics but Dave and Brian are experienced enough to know that rewards only come through hard work and commitment as you don't win anything for just turning up.

Vics held a very successful Race Day at Hudsons Bar raising around £1500. The Committee would like to express thanks to all those who attended and to the sponsors of the horses. They would also like to thank the following Race Sponsors who contributed to the success of the event.

Liam Scott was again the Vics scoring netting on 75 mins with a looping header from a Gauld cross. This was a deserved victory for Vics in a game spoiled by Harp's indiscipline which resulted in them finishing the game with only eight players. Vics can play better but the three points are more than welcome.

Forfar Albion 2  Brechin Vics 4

Vics had a hard fought victory against their local rivals. In a typical derby match Vics took and early two goal lead with goals from McNaught and Gauld. Danny was making his comeback after a 2 month lay off from injury and looked in good shape. Vics used all 18 players with only the injured C Eaton, P Ross and R Young missing out.

Blairgowrie 0 Brechin Vics 3

Vics recorded an excellent and deserved victory over Perthshire club Blairgowrie. First half goals from Colin McNaught and Liam Scott gave Vics a deserved two goal half time lead. McNaught had a penalty saved by Blair keeper 2 mins into the second half before Gavin Cooper completed the scoring.

Vics have another important League match next Saturday 24th March when they travel to meet local rivals Forfar Albion. Kick off 2.30pm

Montrose Roselea 0  Brechin Vics 1

Vics had a moral boosting victory in this very competitive friendly played at Links Park, Montrose. Vics used the game to give much needed match time to all players and played some neat football creating a number of chances. Vics eventually took the lead mid way through the second half when McNaught scored from the penalty spot after he was brought down as he ran in on goal. Roselea posed Vics a few problems in the last 20 mins but Vics were able to hold out for a deserved win.

Vics although disappointed with the result can be encouraged with the perfromance especially in the second half. With a bit of luck and better finishing Vics may have got share of the points. Vics have played the top four sides in the last 4 weeks and have lost three of them by the odd goal. Vics must continue with this competitive level of performance when they travel to meet Blairgowrie on Saturday 17th March. Kick off 2.30pm

With Vics pushing for an equaliser Kirrie hit them on the break and completed the scoring with a last minute Sieveright goal.

Vics have a free week this Saturday 3rd March BUT have arranged a friendly away to Luncarty. Kick off is 2.00pm

Brechin Vics 2 Montrose Roselea 3

Vics raced into a two goal lead after 18 mins. The first from Ryan Young and the second a great stike from Chaz McKenzie. Vics committee were shocked to learn of the sudden death of ex manager Jim Hodson (Huddy).  Jim was a true character of the game. Huddy played most of his playing career with A.S.C, before going into management where he had success at Arbroath Vics before his spell at Brechin. He will be sadly missed in the junior game and our condolences go out to his family.

Vics hastily arranged a friendly on Saturday against Premier League outfit Broughty Athletic played at Links Park, Montrose. Although Vics lost 6-1 (McNaught the Vics goalscorer) it was a worthwhile exercise which saw all 17 players getting at least 45 mins. Vics Management Team were also able to get a look at two trialists who have been training with the team. Both players showed up well in what was a difficult game. It also gave Chris Eaton the chance to play his first game since breaking his leg last February. Chris completed 45 mins without any ill effects.

Vics inability to hold onto a lead and see out the game came back to haunt them on Saturday. Vics played much better against Harp and deserved at least a point from the game but two very late goals meant that they returned home empty handed.

Keeper Robbie had a game to remember not only because of some fine saves but because he scored his first goal for the club. Robbie has one of the best kicks in the league and when he launched one on 68mins the ball cleared the Harp defence took one bounce on the 18 yard line before sailing high past the keeper and into the back of the net. It should be mentioned that his kick was not wind assisted on what was a wet but calm day.

Vics youngsters battled bravely and will learn from this experience albiet a harsh one. Vics immediately put team matters in the control of assistant manager Kevin Longmuir in the hope that continuity was the best way forward. Roselea pulled a goal back on the hour mark when Hood headed past Robbie from 10 yards. Despite pressure from Roselea Vics held out for a deserved victory.

Vics are away from home on Saturday when they travel to meet Arbroath Vics in another section game. Arbroath also recoreded a victory when they beat ASC 2 - 0 . Kick off is 2.30pm

Brechin Vics 4  Parkvale 0

Vics produced another convincing performance and victory against their Aberdeen Junior counterparts. The only disappointing aspect of the game was a broken leg sustained by Vics player Neil Moffat. This will mean a long lay off for the influencial midfielder. Vics took the lead on 20 mins when the Parvale keeper could only parry Ferguson's shot with Skelly following up to slot the ball into the net from 12 yards. Vics dominated the game from then on but it wasn't until 3 mins into the second half that they increased their lead. Moffat was the scorer when he blocked a clearance by the defender and the ball sailed over the keeper from 18 yards out. Midway through the second half Vics made it 3 nil when Longmuir scored direct from a free kick from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance. The injury to Moffat on 75 mins meant that the remaining 15 mins was a non event but Vics still managed a further goal when a great Fyfe shot was parried by the keeper and this time Valentine was on hand to slot the ball into the empty net from 6 yards

The serious stuff starts on Wednesday 4th August when Vics are at home to Montrose Roselea in a League Cup section match. The game kicks off at 6.45pm. On Saturday 7th Aug Vics are away to Arbroath Vics again in the league cup. kick off is 2.30pm

Brechin Vics 8 Arbroath Harp  0

Vics had a resounding victory against amatuer side Arbroath Harp. Vics were always in command and were 5 up by the break. Vics rang the changes in the second half and scored a further 3 goals to record an excellent victory.

A Ferguson 4, C McNaught 2, S Russell and N Moffat

Banchory St Ternans 2 Brechin Vics  3

Vics were on their travels  to meet Super League outfit Banchory. Vics took the lead on 15 mins when good work involving Fyfe and Archibald sent Young down the left and when his cross came in the ball broke to McNaught who swept the ball past the keeper from 12 yards. Vics were looking the more likely to score in the first half and it was no surprise when the doubled their lead on 35 mins. A high cross into the box from Bell was fumbled by the keeper and Young reacted quickest to bundle the ball into the back of the net from 4 yards. Banchory came back at Vics early in the second half and were awarded a penalty after Robbie brought down the striker. The penalty kick gave Robbie no chance. Banchory were looking dangerous and it was no surprise when they equalised on 70 mins when the striker was allowed to slot home unmarked from 10 yards. Vics regrouped and gradually got back into the game and deservedly took the lead with 10 mins remaining when Black squared for Fyfe to slot the ball into the net from 18 yards.

Brechin Vics 1 Carnoustie Y M 3

Vics had a disappointing perfromance and result in this midweek friendly. Carnoustie were the better side in the first half and deserved their 2 nil interval lead. Minutes into the second half Carnoustie extended their lead. The remaining 30 mins Vics totally dominated and created enough chances to win they game but infortuanately it wasn't going to be their night. The only gaol for Vics came from corner when Moffat bundled the ball over the line from 6 yards.

Manager Lawson was furious with the players after the game and although dominating the last 30 mins the performance was well below what is required and expected. A huge improvement will be required for Saturdays away game against Banchory

Brechin Vics  3 Cove Rangers U21's  2

Vics had a good victory in what turned out to be a very competitive friendly. Cove took the lead after 10 mins when they scored with a great free kick from 25 yards which gave Robbie no chance. Vics equalised on 25 mins when new signing Fyfe ran onto a through ball to round the keeper and smash the ball into the empty net. Fyfe took a ankle knock when scoring and had to be replaced by another new signing Ferguson. It was Ferguson who set up Vics second goal on 40 mins when his cross from the right was met by McNaught who side footed the ball into the net from 6 yards.

Vics came out in the second have and dominated possession. They were rewarded on the hour mark and again  Ferguson was the provider this time squaring the ball for D Ross to side foot passed the keeper from 16 yards. Vics looked th more liklier side in the second half but were unable to add to their tally. Cove scored a further goal on 85 mins when their striker unleased a great shot fron 20 yards into the corner of the net again giving Robbie no chance.

Forfar West End 3  Brechin Vics 0

Manager Lawson had to shuffle his team on Wednesday with Cairney, Barclay , Bell and Paton replacing P Ross, Longmuir, Hart and Gauld. Vics were more than a match against their undefeated Premier League opponents and could have taken the lead themselves when Lawson had a chance but the keeper saved. Forfar took the lead midway through the when a mistake at the back allowed ex Vics manager Simpson the easiest tasks to score from 8 yards. Vics fell further behind on 30 mins when a Forfar striker headed past Robbie from a corner kick. The second half was fairly even with regards to possession although Forfar were looking the more dangerous on attack. Vics again created a number of chances but the final ball lacked accuracy. Lawson again had a couple of half chances both which were saved by the keeper. Forfar completed the scoring on 88mins with a stunning volley from 20 yards giving Robbie no chance.

Vics had a good run out on Monday night when they beat Cove Rangers U21's one nil with striker Easton scoring the winning goal after 75 mins. Lawson expects a very difficult game on Saturday against very good opposition and it will be a guide to the progress that the team is making. Kick off is 2.30pm

Brechin Vics had a very youthful team out in their friendly with Forfar West End with no fewer than 9 out of the squad of 14 aged twenty or under. Vics gave a good account of themselves despite losing 4 -1 to a top Premier League side. Forfar took the lead early in the game only for Vics Hart to equalise on 30 mins with a good strike from 20 yards. The Forfar side took the lead again midway through the second half and added a couple of goals in the last 15 mins to complete the scoring. Vics do not have a fixture this Saturday although Manager Lawson will be hoping to arrange a friendly to keep the players ticking over. Vics do have a friendly on Monday evening (8th March) when Highland League outfit Cove Rangers will be visiting Victoria Park. Kick off 7.30pm

Brechin Vics home game against East Craigie has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Although the snow has cleared part of the ground is still under water. Vics have arranged a friendly this afternoon against Forfar West End the match being held at Links park, Montrose with a 2.00pm kick off

Brechin Vics next fixture is on 27th February when they are at home against East Craigie in a East Region North league match. the kick off for this game is 2.30pm

Brechin Vics away league fixture again Arbroath Vics has been postponed after a morning inspection. Ogilvy Park is covered with up to 2 inches of snow

Lochee Harp 1  Brechin Vics  1

Vics followed up last weeks good victory with a creditable draw away to Lochee Harp. Harp led at half time thanks to a strike from 25 yards on the 30 minute mark. Vics were the better team after the break and levellled the scoring on 70 mins with a headed goal from Moffat

Brechin Vics 2 Kirrie Thistle 0

Brechin Vics had an excellent victory against previously unbeaten Kirrie Thistle. Two second half goals from Moffat and Bell was the difference between the sides. Vics are away from home on Saturday 13th February when they travel to meet Lochee Harp, kick off 2.15pm

See Match report for full details

Brechin Vics scheduled game against Kirrie Thiustle was postpoined because of a frozen pitch. The match is carried forward to next Saturday 6th February the only difference being kick off time 2.00pm Manager Lawson is looking at a couple of players and is hopeful of making an addition to the playng staff before next weeks game

Brechin Vics 1 Forfar Albion 3

Brechin Vics had a bad performance against local rivals coming out losers by three goals to one. Vics scorer was Forbes who sent a tremendous shot high into the net from some 25 yards to give Vics the lead. Vics failed to capitalise on taking the lead and produced a below par perfromance

Game Off

Like all other Junior games Vics home match with Forfar Albion was called off this time because of a waterlogged pitch. Manager Lawson took a morning training session at Brechin which was well attended and proved a good get together. Vics managed a full week of training last week and are hoping to arrange a friendly this week to get the players back to match fitness. This weeks fixture on Saturday 23rd January is as last week with Forfar Albion visiting Victoria Park. Kick off is 1.45pm

Game Off

Not surprisingly Vics game was postponed on Saturday because of a snow bound pitch. Manager Lawson took the squad down to Lunan Bay Beach for a training session and although very limted in what work you could do a good workout was had by the squad. Vics next fixture is on 16th January when they entertain Forfar Albion at home in a league encounter. Kick off is 1.45pm

Vics Manager Derek Lawson has seen his teams preparations severely hampered because of the cold weather the country is experiencing. Continuous efforts to find suitable training facilities have proved fruitless. Vics next fixture is Saturday 9th January with a home league game against Lochee Harp but with the forecast of much of the same weather the match is already in the doubtful category. Kick off on Saturday is 1.45pm

Brechin Vics first fixture of the new year is on the 9th January 2010 and is a HOME League game against Lochee Harp.  Kick off for this match is 1.45pm

Brechin Vics 0  Downfield  1

Vics lost out by the odd goal in what was an entertaining game . Both sides were determind to play passing football on a sodden but good playing surface. The only goal of the game came in 75 mins and try as they could Vics could not get on level terms in what would have been a deserved draw. Vics are again in League action next week 12th December when they travel to play Forfar Albion. Kick off is 1.45pm

New Signing

Brechin Vics have signed Kevin 'Zola' Longmuir from near neighbours Montrose Roselea. Kevin is an experienced junior player having played with Arbroath FC, ASC, Arbroath Vics, Carnoustie, Downfield, North End and Forfar West End. Kevin will double up as player and coach and will prove a very good signing for Vics. He is a versatile player equally comfortable up front or in defence. Kevin is in line to make his debut in Saturday's league game against one of his former clubs Downfield

Coupar Angus 4  Brechin Vics  0

Vics had a very dissappointing afternoon when they crashed to a heavy defeat at Coupar Angus. This was a very poor perfomance from Vics and they can have no complaints with the scoreline. Vics find themselves at home next Saturday when Downfield visit Victoria Park in an East Region North league game.Kick off is 1.45pm

Vics game against Forfar Albion was abandoned after 60 mins because of waterlogged pitch. Albion were leading 1 - 0 thanks to a 15 min goal. Brechin Vics Redwood Leisure cup tie away to Downfield scheduled for today Saturday 14th has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

New Signings

New manager Derek Lawson hasn't taken long to add to his playing staff with the addition of two new signings. Kris McWalter is a promising young player who has had junior experience previously with Arbroath Vics. Kris is a midfielder and should be a good acquisition to the squad. The other signing is the exerienced striker Bobby Bell. Bobby has vast experience at junior level having played with both ASC and Arbroath Vics. Both players are available to make their debuts on Saturday.

Vics have also lost the services of Lud Metelski who as a result of being relocated through his job has had to find a club nearer his home. The club wishes him well for the future

Brechin Vics are holding a RACE NIGHT on Saturday 14th NOV at the Bridgend Lounge. Start Time 7.30pm. Come along and have a great evenings fun and who knows you might even win a small fortune. East Region League

East Craigie 1  Brechin Vics 2

Vics had a deserved victory away to East Craigie coming back from a goal down at half time to totally dominate the second half. This gave new Manager Derek Lawson the ideal start to his Vics career. Derek shuffled the pack and started with a new formation. Once Vics settled into the new formation  there looked to be only one winner. It however took two second half goals to seal victory, the first came from Chris Simpson from 4 yards with the second a great free kick by David Easton from 25 yards. Vics are on cup duty next week when they are again in Dundee when they meet Downfield in The Redwood Leisure Cup. Kick off is 2.00pm

See match report for full details

Management Team Resign

Brechin Vics received a major shock when Manager Chris SImpson and Assistant Manager Alan Millar resigned from their posts. Both Chris and Alan intimated that the pressures of combining football management, work and family commitments were proving too much. Whilst both confirmed that it was not an easy decision they felt that this was the best way forward for themselves and the Club. The Committee stunned by the decision fully respect their reasons and are grateful for the efforts that they have put into improving the professionalisim of the club. Results didn't quite match expectations but the improvement is their for all too see. The Committee wish them both well for the future.

Vics have appointed senior player Derek Lawson to take charge of all team matters. Clive Massie is to retain his position of player coach. Derek has only recently returned from Australia where he has been coaching and playing football. Derek is very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead and will be looking to add to the squad and coaching staff in the near future.

Derek's first game in charge is on Saturday when Vics travel to face East Craigie in a League game. kick off 2.00pm

Brechin Vics 1 Armadale Thistle 7

Vics had a disappointing Scottish Cup encounter on Saturday losing heavily. Vics found their opponents too good and powerful on the day although they can be disappointing in the manner in which they lost the some of the goals. Vics are back on League duty on Saturday 7th November when they travel to Dundee to play East Craigie. Kick off is 2.00pm

Vics secure link with local Amatuer team

Brechin Vics are proud to announce that they are closely linked with local Amatuer outfit Bervie Caley AFC. The two sides have been in discussion to create a link where players can possibly move in either direction whether it be for much needed game time or being given the chance to play at a higher level.  The picture below shows the Vics and Caleys committee and management team after a recent friendlt at Victoria Park.

More news on this story will follow.

Broughty Athletic 3  Brechin Vics  0

Vics were in Dundee for the third week in a row when they visited league leaders Broughty. Vics playing against driving rain and a very strong wind found themselves 2 nil down at the interval. Vics came more into the game in the second half having more of the ball but again failing to create any clear cut chances. Vics are on Emirates Scottish Cup duty on Saturday 31st October when Armadale Thistle visit Victoria Park. This game has a 2pm kick off

GA Engineering Cup

Downfield 1 Brechin Vics 0

Vics were again in Dundee on Saturday and although having the lions share of possession they could not transfer this into goals. Vics lost  what looked an offside goal on 4 mins and try as they did could not get an equaliser. Vics outfield play remains good but its the creating an taking of chances that the team will have to work on. Vics have another very difficul league encounter on Saturday 24th Oct away to league leaders and favourites for the league Broughty Athletic. Kick off is 2.30pm

see match reports for full details

Vics have drawn a home tie against Armadale Thistle in the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup. The date for this tie is 31st October.

Full draw is a s follows

Dundee Violet 2 Brechin Vics 0

Although Vics lost on Saturday this was a much better performance by the whole team and if they had taken their first half chances then who knows what the outcome may have been. Violet were the beneficiaries of a controversial penalty kick just before half time after their striker appeared to slip under the challenge of Ross. Vics however can take a lot from the game as they competed well against a good Violet side who sit 2nd top of the league. Vics are on their travels on Saturday 17th October when they meet Downfield in the GA Engineering Cup. Kick off is 2.30pm

see match reports for full details

Doreens Taxi's sponsor Vics

The companies information will be available soon which will highlight Doreens telephone number for taxis in and around the Brechin area.

North League

Brechin Vics 0 - 0 North End

The Vics drew a blank against North End at a windy Victoria Park this afternoon. With many games in the region being cancelled due to strong winds, it was inevitable that the wind was going to spoil what was potentially an attractive league game. Both teams had good chances to win the game and North End were reduced to ten men late into the second half when Chris Simpson was hauled down with only the keeper to beat.

The match report will be available shortly.

Vics team up with Lucozade

Instead of the usual wednesdays night training session, the Vics were lucky enough to be put through their paces by the Sports Science team from Lucozade. The players performed a number of fitness tests working on speed and agility with and without a ball. These tests are normally used by premiership teams to record players fitness components so the Vics would like to thank Jaymie Mart for taking the time to come up and deliver the session, aswell as Ewan Cairney for organising the event. Manager Chris Simpson commented 'the lads really enjoyed themselves tonight and we all found the testing enjoyable and also it was interesting to compare scores to see who really was the quickest in the team'.

East of Scotland Cup 1st Round

East Craigie 4 - Brechin Vics 1

Vics poor run of results continued on Saturday with another below par performance. After a good start to the season Vics appeared to have lost confidence and belief in their ability. The only highlight was a goal from striker Easton who's shot from 20 yards found the corner of the net. Only hard work from everyone will turn results around. Vics are at home on Saturday 3rd October when Dundee North End are visitors to Victoria Park. Kick off is 2.30pm

Brechin Vics are saddened to hear of the passing of Brechin City Honary Life President David Will. He was a true gentleman and was a great ambassador for the sport of football throughout the world. Our condolences go out to his wife and family

Kirrie Thistle 2  Brechin Vics 1

Vics had another disappointing result and performance on Saturday although they could have come away with a share of the points but for a late goal from Kirrie. Vics made a number of changes from last weeks team but this never had the desired affect and although they were hard to break down Vics never created much in the way of chances. The only bright note was a 30 yard strike from Ross which deceived the keeper and ended up in the back off the net. Vics have a break from league duty on Saturday 26th September when they travel to meet Dundee East Craigie in the East of Scotland Cup 1st round. Kick off is 2.30pm

See match reports for full details

10th October - away, Dundee Violet (League)

17th October - away, Downfield (GA Engineering Cup 1st Round)

Kick offs 2.30pm unless stated

Brechin Vics 2  Coupar Angus 3

This was a very poor performance by Vics as they failed to match their more eager opponents. Vics normal passing game didn't happen until the last half hour and by this time they were 3 goals behind. They dominated the end of the match and scored two good goals the first a 25 yard volley by Fenwick and the second a headed goal from Easton, but it was a case of too little too late. Lets hope this was a one off and they get back on track when they travel to meet Kirrie Thistle on Saturday 19th Sept. Kick off is 2.30pm

See match report section for full details

Action shots from Arbroath Herald added

North League

Brechin Vics 2 Arbroth Vics 2

Brechin had a well deserved draw against near neighbours Arbroath. Over the 90 minutes Brechin's good outfield play probably should have earned them the 3 pts but they failed to take the chances that they had created. The team however showed real character to get back into the match after losing such an early second half goal. Scorers for Brechin were Moffat with a first half header and a great Paton strike from 25 yards in the second half.

Brechin are at home again on Saturday 12th September when Coupar Angus are the visitors to Victoria Park. Kick off 2.30pm

Arbroath S C  1   Brechin Vics  3

Vics had a well deserved victory in what was their first league encounter of the season. The goals were scored by Easton and Mudie in the first half with player manager Simpson netting in the second half. Vics went on to squander a number of good chances but held out for a comfortable victory. The management team of Simpson and Millar were delighted with the victory and emphasised the contribution made by the whole squad. They stressed that it was only one victory and thoughts are now turned to next weeks home game against Arbroath Vics which will prove and even greater challenge. Montrose Roselea 2 - 0 Brechin Vics

The final game of the DJ Laing cup section did not live up to expectations as Roselea ended up comfortable 2-0 winners. Two first half goals were enough to see off the Vics who never really threatened to get back into the game until midway through the second half. A dissapointed Chris Simpson commented 'this was a great chance for us to progress into a semi final and we didnt show any confidence on the ball, we now have a quality in the squad which i dont think the Vics have had in many years but the players need to start believing in themselves if we want to beat teams like roselea'

The match report will be available soon.

Player Transfer Activity

The Management have been busy during the close season with the introdcution of 3 new signings with another couple of players currently training with the club. As is always the case, teams lose players and Vics are no exception with 5 players having left the club for various reasons.

New Signings

Graeme Hart - Graeme is a big powerful striker who has shown up well in the pre-season friendlies and will prove to be an excellent addition. His previous clubs are Dundee North End and Hamilton Accies.

David Easton - David is a young local lad and is also a striker . This is his first season as a junior footballer and already he seems to be settling in well to the team. His previous clubs are Arbroath FC, and was also at Raith Rovers as a youth.

David Fotheringham - David is another Brechin lad and is a product of the Under 19 Youth team. Its a big step up to junior football but he looks as though he has the attributes to achieve success.

Players That Have Left

Steven Cairney - Steven has served the club for the last 8 years and has shown great commitment during this time. Unfortunately family and work commitments have forced Steven to give up and the club although disappointed to lose him fully support his decision.

Callum Valentine - A product of the Under 19's Callum has decided to go back to amatuer football.

Brian Nicoll - Brian is another who came through the Under 19 route and he too has decided to return to amatuer football.

Gary Bruce - Gary has only been here  one season with the Vics and has had to give up because of work commitments

Mark Bruce - Mark was only at Vics for one season but did not feature as often as he would have liked.  He has rejoined amatuer outfit Morgan Academy FPs.

Vics Management and Committee are grateful for the efforts and commitments of all players who have left and wish them well for the future

League Cup

Brechin Vics 1 ASC 1

Vics had a well earned draw against their Arbroath opponents but had to come form behind to gain a point. ASC took the lead on 20 mins when Vics defence failed to deal with a high ball on the edge of the box and this was followed by  a short pass back which allowed the striker the easiest of finishes. Vics dominanted the second half and eventually equalised on 70 mins after a shot from 25 yards by Paul Ross took a slight deflection and ended in the back off the net.

Brechin Vics 4 SS Peter & Paul 2

Vics won their final pre season encounter against Dundee Amatuer side who play in the Midland Amatuer League. This game was hastily arranged when the Vics original opponents Montrose U19's had to pull out.

Vics were two up within 15 mins and both goals were scored by new striker Graeme Hart. His first goal came via the penalty spot when he coolly dispatched his kick past the diving keeper after the referee had awarded the spot kick after Metelski had his jersey pulled in the penalty box. The second came from a free kick from 20 yards as he hammered the ball low into the corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Vics continued to dominate the opening exchanges and it was no surprise when they extended their lead. This time a through ball found Easton who drove forward unchallenged before placing the ball passed the keeper from 12 yards.

The second half saw the opposition pose some problems for Vics and they pulled a goal back midway through the half from a corner kick. Vics responded immediately and once again Easton scored shooting high into the roof of the net from 10 yards. SS Peter & Paul got a further goal from the penalty spot to complete the scoring.

Winning is a good habit to get into and with the chances created Vics should have won by a bigger margin. The opposition were strong opponents and gave Vics a physical challenge that they hadn't encountered in their previous games.

League Cup action starts on Saturday 8th August for Vics with a home game against Arbroath Sporting Club. Kick off 2.30pm

Brechin Vics 2 Johnshaven 1

Vics came out on top in their latest friendly match. Vics were in control in the first 45 minutes and should have led by more than the solitary goal which was scored by Easton. The goal came after a neat passing move involving Skelly and Paton and when they sent Eaton in the clear down the left his cut back allowed Easton to side foot home from 8 yards. This was no more than Vics deserved at this point. Hart was next to try his luck but after good play his shot slid past the upright with the keeper beaten.

The second half produced the usual change of personnel and this resulted in Vics play becoming a bit scrappy as the substitutes took time to settle. The half was much more even with Johnshaven asking questions of the Vics defence. It was Vics however who scored the next goal and it was Hart who scored from the penalty spot after being tripped in the box. Easton was next to have an attempt but his shot from 20 yards was tipped over the bar by the keeper. With 10 mins remaining Johnshaven got a goal that they probably deserved. Vics failed to clear their lines and when the ball broke to the striker he hammered the ball into the net from 10 yards.

Again this game was a worthwhile exercise and while not at their best Vics did enough to earn a victory. it also allowed the managment the opportunity to change team selection and give some players much needed playing time.

Vics season begins in earnest on 8th August when they at home to Arbroath Sporting Club in the League Cup section match. This game has a 2.30pm kick off

Friendly Wednesday 29th July versus Johnshaven

All players are requested to meet at 6.15pm at Victoria Park for friendly match against Johnshaven. Any call offs to contact Alan Millar as soon as possible

Jeanfield Swifts 1  Brechin Vics 0

Vics travelled to Perth on Saturday in what was their 3rd and hardest pre season game. Vics were under considerable pressure early on but restricted Jeanfield to long range efforts. The closest Jeanfield came was a cross come shot which looped over Robbie and came back of the crossbar and was cleared to safety. Vics best effort came from Paton when he beat his marker with a bit of trickery but his shot from 18 yards went wide of the target. The second half was quite evenly matched but Jeanfield looked the more dangerous in attack. Jeanfield did take the lead on 75 mins when they scored with a header from a corner. Vics responded immediately when Barclay was sent through the middle. A combination of the keeper and defender upended Barclay and as the ball broke Fenwick slid the ball into the empty net. Unfortuately for Vics the referree has already blown for the free kick and the goal was disallowed.

This was a much harder test for Vics and they acquitted themselves well. Although they didn't create too much in attack, as a team they defended very well with keeper Robbie only having to make 2 saves of any note. The run out was another step in match fitness preperations as the Vics gear up for the start of the season on 8th August

Brechin Vics 4  Bervie Caley 1

Vics won quite convincingly in the end against Aberdeen Amatuer side Bervie Caley. The visitors showed early on that they would be not be easy opponents and had their fair share of possession during the half without posing to many problems for keeper Robbie, who's defence kept any efforts to long range. It wasn't until the second half that the goals were scored and it was Bervie who took the lead on 60 mins. It was a bad goal to lose from the Vics point of view when they failed to deal with a cross from the right and the ball ended up rebounding off vics midfielder Neil Hattersly and in to the net. Vics were quickly on level terms when Simpson volleyed home from 12 yards. Vics took the lead some 10 mins later when Moffat shot home from 6 yards. Vics were now dominant at this stage and it was manager Simpson who again got on the score sheet scoring a further two goals in the last 10 mins to complete his hat-trick. His second goal came after good play down the left which saw Simpson cut in before placing the ball in the corner of the net from 14 yards. His third goal came after he was found free 6 yards from goal and slotted the ball home with ease.

This was another worth while exercise with the whole squad getting a run out. It was good to see the Vics hard training schedule paying dividends as they finished by far the stronger team. Credit to Bervie who for spells matched the Vics and gave them some uncomfortable moments.

Saturday 25th July sees Vics away to Jeanfield Swifts kick off 2pm. The Vics have two further home friendlies when Johnshaven Amatuers visit on Wednesday 29th July, kick of at 7pm and the final pre-season friendly is on Saturday 1st August against Montrose U19's kick off 2.00pm.

Brechin Vics 2 Banchory St Ternans 2

Vics had a creditable draw against their Aberdeen Super League opponents but in reallity could have been a victory. In an evenly contested first half with both sides having periods of domination it was Vics who took the lead on 25 mins when Hart scored from close range after a great Hattersley run and cross from the right. Vics increased their lead 15 mins into the second half with a terrific goal. Banchory cleared a Vics corner only to the feet of Skelly who from 30 yards crashed an unstoppable shot high passed the keeper. Banchory had more of the game in the last 25 mins as Vics made numerous changes in an attempt and give players crucial match practice. Banchory however grabbed two goals in the last 10 mins for probably a deserved share of the spoils in what was a very worthwhile exercise for both side.

Vics have another pre-season friendly when they play Bervie Caly at Victoria Park on Wednesday 22nd July kick off 7.15. On Saturday 25th July 2009 they are away to Jeanfield Swifts of Perth with a 2pm kick off

Kirrie Thistle 2 Brechin Vics 1

Vics travelled to Kirrie for their first competitive game of the season and should have came home with at least a share of the points. Vics were the more dangerous in the first 25 mins although Kirrie dominated the last 15 mins and scored on 44 mins when Vics failed to clear at the back post allow the striker to score from 5 yards.

Kirrie struck 2 mins into the second half when their striker unleashed an unstoppable shot past Robbie from 10 yards. Vics fought back and McNaught scored on 60mins when he fired a great free kick past the Kirrie keeper from some 25 yards. Vics were the better team in the final period but could not get the elusive equaliser with the best chance falling to Longmuir who screwed his shot wide from 6 yards
